Another Year of Changes

iP is here to help as the utility industry workforce evolves and regulatory changes continue to be implemented.

It is the last week of January as I write this opening commentary for our first issue of the year. Here in the Chicago suburbs, our lights are on, we have heat and so far no polar vortex is upon us. It has just been announced that an impending blizzard could bring an epic snowfall tomorrow night. Airports across the country are canceling eastbound flights and schools are announcing closures. I’m confident that utilities on the East Coast have begun their preparedness drills for the hazardous challenges the storm is about to bring. By the time this issue hits your desktop, the storm will have passed and we hope every single person affected by the event makes it home safely.

2014 was a year of changes for the industry, and 2015 promises to bring more. In addition to volatile weather patterns that will continue to pose challenges, the workforce and workplace are evolving as utility industry personnel retire in record numbers and revised regulatory rules are implemented.

New Name Better Reflects Company’s Product and Service Offerings

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. – February 1, 2012 – Effective January 1, 2012, Incident Prevention Inc. is now owned and operated by Utility Business Media Inc. (UBM).

“We are changing our business name to better reflect the company we are today,” said Carla Housh, UBM president and CEO. “Utility Business Media Inc. is still owned and managed by the same people who owned and managed Incident Prevention Inc. However, with the introduction of Utility Fleet Professional magazine in 2011, we have grown beyond serving just the safety marketplace.”

UBM offers a variety of products and services. It publishes two bimonthly magazines – Incident Prevention, written specifically for people employed in the safety utility industry, and Utility Fleet Professional, dedicated to utility fleet and equipment operations professionals. Twice a year UBM produces the iP Safety Conference & Expo, which features safety-focused seminars, networking events, panel discussions and exhibitors. The Certified Utility Safety Professional program, run by the Utility Safety & Ops Leadership Network, is the only program that offers safety credentials to employees of utilities, related contractors and communication providers.
